Charley Fitton. Primary SCITT trainee, gives us a low down on her training year with us.

Charley, has recently secured her first job as a Newly Qualified Teacher at one of her placement schools St Catherine’s Catholic Primary School. She has answered some questions about her training year which provide a great insight into the training.

Which school have you secured a job?

St Catherine’s Catholic Primary School

What subject will you teach?

Primary

When did you start to apply for jobs?

Early March

Be as organised as you can be but accept that nothing will ever be perfect! Take everything in and ask as many questions as possible, people always want to help.

How have you found your training year with The Sheffield SCITT?

I feel prepared for September as the increase in workload is gradual. You are immersed in a school setting from day one and it is good to have professionals with you daily to answer any questions and give you guidance. It is a crazy year, but I feel supported and ready for September.

Personal highlights?

Gaining a job at the primary school that I attended.

What did you find most challenging?

The times when your Evidence Bundles are due is very busy and stressful especially as the year progresses. Not only are you planning, marking and teaching, you have to reflect on your practise when you get home in order pass the assessment point.

Any tips for future teacher trainees?

Be as organised as you can be but accept that nothing will ever be perfect! Take everything in and ask as many questions as possible, people always want to help.

Did the training put you in good stead for applying for teaching positions and going to interviews?

Yes, I felt confident when applying for jobs. I only applied for one which is the one that I wanted but I knew what I needed to include in the application etc.
