About Us
About The Sheffield SCITT
The Sheffield SCITT (school-centred initial teacher training) is owned and operated by St Clare’s Multi Academy Trust and is led jointly by Notre Dame High School and St Catherine’s Primary School, Sheffield.
What sets us apart is our school-centred approach. From day one you will be emersed in school life, experiencing the full calendar cycle of the academic year and supported at every stage by expert teachers. We pride ourselves on the strong relationships we have with our local partner schools that are all placed within South Yorkshire and Chesterfield including schools in Sheffield, Doncaster, Barnsley and Rotherham.
Our partnership schools see The Sheffield SCITT as the best way to find and develop their own future teachers. We aim to supply most of the Early Career Teacher needs of our partnership of schools and our high-quality training is trusted by the schools we work with.
What makes us unique?
We remain small enough to know every trainee as an individual and give every partner school a voice in the running of the SCITT, but large enough to offer our trainees a diverse and bespoke experience of a different schools within the partnership - including Academies, Maintained Community Schools, Church Schools, those in multicultural inner cities, secondary schools with large sixth forms and primary schools with Early Years Centres.
Local partnerships
Our robust curriculum is ambitious. We don’t only provide training on the core ITTECF curriculum, we pride ourselves that our curriculum goes beyond this to prepare our trainees for their future careers. Our curriculum is contextual as we know the schools and the communities they serve.
We don’t just teach the theory; our trainees experience it and are given the chance to apply it from day one, working with expert mentors and teachers who know how to put theory into practice.
We follow an A-B-A approach to our teaching placements with trainees starting their journey at one of our partner schools for the first term. They will then complete their second placement at a contrasting school, before returning to their first school. Our curriculum is tailored to complement this journey and allow trainees to develop their skills.
Curriculum
What makes us unique is that our trainees are supported and trained by people who are experts within their field. Our weekly hub sessions are led by a range of experts who share their expertise and experiences whilst providing high quality research-led tuition.
