Chloe Mellor: Primary SCITT Trainee 2021/22

"Everything is very well organised, and everyone is very welcoming. The hub sessions which we have on a weekly basis are so helpful and we get lots of support"

Chloe Mellor

As we approach half term I have had the chance to catch up with on of our trainees Chloe Mellor.

Chloe gives us an insight into how her teacher training journey has been so far.

I am truly loving every moment. No day is the same when working in a school and I think this gives school life such a fun element.

Background:

I studied dance for three years at the University of Lincoln and went on to have two gap years, this is when I decided my ambition in life was to teach. My passion for teaching stemmed from teaching dance at Razzmatazz Theatre School where I have worked for just over two years. I have just started my teacher training in primary education and currently placed in year one which I am really enjoying. I love helping children grow and succeed in life and I am delighted to have started this journey as part of the Sheffield SCITT course.

Qualities:

The qualities I have which will help me in the teaching profession are that I am very enthusiastic and put my all into everything I do. I love to be creative, and I have really good patience which I think is a key skill when working with children.

Experience:

When I was at secondary school my work experience was for one week in a primary school and I loved it however most of my experience is from working at Razzamatazz.

1ST month of teacher training:

I was very nervous on my first day, but I am truly loving every moment. No day is the same when working in a school and I think this gives school life such a fun element. Looking back to my first day, my confidence has grown so much already. My mentor is also very helpful and is supporting me along the way of my teaching journey.

Responsibilities:

I currently have two playtime duties a week along with helping the children at lunchtimes. I also have the responsibility of reading the story at the end of the day to my class along with doing the register a few times a week.

Favourite bits:

My favourite aspect of the course is that all the course is school based as I feel I have learnt so much already by being in the classroom and the school environment.

The Sheffield SCITT:

The Sheffield SCITT have been very welcoming and have been really supportive. I had lots of questions in my first few days and my emails would be answered the same day which was helpful. Everything is very well organised, and everyone is very welcoming. The hub sessions which we have on a weekly basis are so helpful and we get lots of support and they are also really fun!

Aspirations:

My aspirations for when I am a qualified teacher are to be the best possible teacher I can be, to support our future generation.
